Let's admit it: the Internet sort of runs our whole life. It is where we get all information, get most of our entertainment, communicate with almost all the people we know and also to express our uniqueness and everything us (like moi right now), so I guess it only makes sense that the Church take advantage of this widespread-ness and vastness of the Internet to send messages to us Catholics. Our generation's technology, most particularly the Internet, has sadly reduced the amount of youth participating in our faith. What better way to reach out to the youth than through the Internet itself?

I certainly think that the Pope having a Twitter account somehow helps reach out to youth. At least, this is an easy way of participating in our faith. Plus, the Internet is fast and vast. One message could be seen by everyone in the world. One Papal message would be seen by Catholics all over the world immediately after that Tweet button was pressed. It's an effective way of spreading the world. I don't think there's a disadvantage to it, just that the Internet is where freedom of speech is most used (almost abused), and people have different opinions on religion. Not every response to the message would be positive.

My parish doesn't take part in social media, as far as I know, but we do have a youth group, so it's no doubt that there would be something social media-related connected to my parish.

Nowadays, with the world moving forward with technology and globalization, sometimes the old-fashioned Church gets left behind. If this innovation is used by our Church, then more people would receive the message.
